Our story began over 100 years ago, as immigrants coming to the United States in search of a better life. 

Hagop Dohanian, the founder of Bon Ton Cleansers, immigrated from Turkey as a teenager. He settled in the Boston area where there was a strong community of Armenians who introduced him to rug cleaning and repair. After a few years of working for others and learning the trade, Hagop decided to start his own company in 1901, and named the business Bon Ton Rug Cleansers.

Hagop initially ran the entire rug business out of his garage. As the business grew and the rugs began spilling out of the space, he decided to open his brick and mortar store in Watertown, MA - the same location we are in today! 

Since its inception, Bon Ton Rug has faced challenges of different magnitudes. We have survived the Great Depression, hurricane damage, World War 2 and fire damage, and have evolved and prospered as each generation has joined the business. Each family member that has come on board has done so out of a passion for the industry and a commitment to improve our services. We hope it’s apparent in every interaction with us that we love what we do.

Through four generations, Bon Ton Rug has maintained a high standard of craftsmanship and has been able to continually provide the best quality service. Under the current leadership of Armen Jr, Adam and Matthew we can ensure this will be the case for years to come.
